Overview of findings by the National Care Standards Commission Inspections which took place on 13th August 2003.


Inspector's Summary

On the day of the inspection there were 17 service users living in Dunster Lodge. The inspector was able to speak with the majority of the service users and staff on duty. All service users appeared comfortable and content. All those who expressed an opinion were happy with the care that they received, they particularly complimentary about the staff who worked in the home, staff were described as "patient" "kind" always willing to help.

The inspector was able to observe activities in the home and discuss leisure activities with service users. The range of activities in the home is excellent and much enjoyed by service users. It was evident that the routines in the home were flexible, with people choosing how to spend their time.

Staff spoken to were happy in their work and felt well supported. Many were undertaking NVQ training. All had completed training in fire safety, manual handling and food hygiene.

All requirements from the last inspection have been complied with. A further 3 requirements and 5 recommendations for good practice have been identifies at this inspection.

During the inspection the management, staff and service users were welcoming and cooperative with the inspection process.
