Dunster
Lodge - Residential care home and respite care in Minehead
NEW - send for our free DVD multimedia presentation, contact details below.
Inside, our
hall is clad in oak panelling. There are two Drawing Rooms
in addition to a Dining Room.
Residents and visitors who use
the Conservatory can enjoy views across the garden, extending
to the hills and valleys of Exmoor towards Devon. The 15 Resident’s rooms are individual
and full of character, nine have en–suite facilities.
When Residents come to live here, we encourage them to bring
their own furniture and homely possessions.
Well behaved pets
welcome. Our main lounge is fitted with a loop system for
the benefit of house residents who wear hearing aids.
Anne and Margaret, friends and neighbours for 18 years, bought Dunster Lodge in April 98.It
is very much their home, as well as that of the residents and they feel
privileged to live and work in such a beautiful environment.
The house is Victorian and nestles in the lea of a hill on the edge of Exmoor National Park.
It is situated in an acre of ground, with views to the hills of Exmoor
extending over the rooftops of Minehead across to the south coast of
Wales.
We have the pleasure of
watching a variety of wildlife including horses, sheep, badgers,
deer, buzzards, and green woodpeckers. Residents are able
to enjoy the Exmoor countryside.
They have easy access to
the garden for al fresco meals, games and to pick the flowers
and walk their pets.
Our
philosophy is firmly rooted in the belief that this house is the
Resident’s Home and the level of care and support we provide reflects
this.
We have a highly
dedicated and experienced Care Team who enjoys working with Elders in a
sensitive way, with warmth and attention to detail. We are very
pro-training as far as the staff are concerned and many of them have
achieved their NVQ Level 2 and some of them have gone on to complete
their NVQ Level 3.
Dunster Lodge has also been
awarded a prestigious quality rating by Somerset Social Services, which
judges over all standards of care, food and rooms, as well as
management techniques and the general philosophy governing the way it
is run. These achievements are the result of a real team effort.
We
employ a part time Social Therapist.
Her role links in with that of our Carers working towards fulfilling
the social, emotional and physical needs of our Residents, building on
our philosophy that people should live a full and as independent a life
as possible.
We also believe in looking
after their social needs because sometimes elderly people left to their
own devices, sit for long periods in their chairs, lost in worlds of
their own. They do not communicate very much, and their only activity
is to get up to get meals or go to the toilet. They loose interest in
the everyday world around them.
Dunster Lodge firmly believes that with the right person, and with
gentle encouragement and coaxing, elderly people can revive their
enjoyment of life. We therefore employ our part time Social Therapist
who has just the skills, insight and empathy to do this.
Our Residents
enjoy drawing, painting and communicating with each other. Our conservatory
is a centre for laughter, reminiscence, shared jokes and a games
area for drafts, dominoes and scrabble. Residents enjoy the company
of their pets, currently dogs, budgies and fish.
Activities such as drawing and art works take place in the mornings
and the regular games bring together people talking and laughing
with each other. Previously, Residents have had to be encouraged
to join in any activities, now they are naturally migrating towards
the groups already enjoying themselves.
Added to all this we have
many outings and many of our Residents continue to visit the local
theatres, to watch current productions. We also offer aromatherapy
and hydrotherapy.
Residential care need
not be a worrying prospect, but instead, it can be the
start of new found friendships and a whole new social life.
We provide permanent and short term respite care in our lovely
Exmoor Home. We welcome enquiries and are always pleased to
show people round. For more information on this wonderful
Residential Home for Elders,

For
the last four years, we have held an Annual Summer Ball on
our front lawn,
for the Residents, its success is growing
and below is this year’s
group
